Bloomberg and Refinitiv recognize Torys as #1

Torys M&A and Capital Markets practices have again been recognized by both Bloomberg and Refinitiv in their respective league tables for the first nine months of the year.

Refinitiv ranked Torys number 1 in its “Any Canadian Involvement Completed” league table for the first nine months of 2023, having completed 28 deals worth C$58 billion.

Notable deals that were completed in Q3 2023 include:

• Brookfield Infrastructure in its US$4.7 billion acquisition of Triton International Limited, the world's largest lessor of intermodal freight containers
• Home Capital in its C$1.7 billion sale to Smith Financial Corporation
• Connor, Clark & Lunn Infrastructure in its US$120 million acquisition of a 49.9% minority interest in Bermuda Skyport Corporation Limited, concessionaire of the L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda, from Aecon Group Inc.

Refinitiv also named Torys as one of the top capital markets advisors by equity and equity-related deal count for the first nine months of 2023 in its “Global Capital Markets: Legal Advisors — Issuers” table, having completed eight deals in the first nine months of 2023 with a total value of $860 million.

In addition, Bloomberg ranked Torys as the top firm in its “Canada Corporate Bonds: Legal Adviser — Issuers” league tables by both deal count and volume, having advised on 13 deals worth C$4.8 billion in the first three quarters of 2023.  

Notable deals in Q3 2023 include:

• Brookfield Infrastructure in its C$700 million public offering of medium term notes, including C$500 million of 5.71% notes, Series 13 and C$200 million of 5.95% notes, Series 14
• RBC Capital Markets, CIBC Capital Markets, TD Securities, BMO Capital Markets, and Scotia Capital Inc. and the syndicate of agents in RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust’s C$300 million private placement of 6.488% Series AI senior unsecured debentures—the first ever “3NC1” bond issued by a Canadian REIT
• Scotiabank, CIBC Capital Markets, RBC Capital Markets and the syndicate of underwriters in DRI Healthcare Trust's C$104 million public offering of units
