Torys is pleased to announce that partner Molly Reynolds has been named the 2024 recipient of the OBA Karen Spector Memorial Award for Excellence in Privacy Law.
Presented by the Ontario Bar Association, the award recognizes exceptional contributions and achievements by an Ontario Bar Association member in the area of privacy law.
Molly is a trailblazer and highly sought-after leader in privacy law in Canada at a time when the field is rapidly changing. From advising clients on data governance best practices and breach response, to providing privacy class action defence, Molly is known for her outstanding and comprehensive cross-border counsel and has been recognized as a leading privacy lawyer in numerous publications, such as Chambers Canada, Best Lawyers in Canada, Lexpert/American Lawyer’s Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
Molly’s contributions to privacy law and the legal profession are significant and transcend legal and business impact to having broader social implications. As one of the pioneers in developing legal protections for victims of cyber abuse in Canada, Molly has devoted the last decade of her pro bono work to seeking justice for women subjected to non-consensual distribution of intimate images. She is also a member of the LEAF Technology-Facilitated Violence committee, where she contributes her expertise in privacy torts across Canada to help develop and maintain a feminist approach to laws surrounding online abuse.
Molly is a member of the Canadian Bar Association Privacy and Access executive, and was the 2020-2021 Chair of the OBA Privacy and Access to Information Law section. With a passion for mentoring and sharing knowledge, Molly regularly lectures on privacy and privacy litigation at law schools, conferences, and other educational programs across Canada.
This award is a true testament to Molly’s outstanding achievements and contributions to privacy law in Canada. Congratulations, Molly!
