Cal’s practice focuses on corporate law with an emphasis on private equity, private fund formation and mergers and acquisitions. He represents fund sponsors on all aspects of the private market fund formation and capital raising process. Cal also represents public pension plans and other institutional investors in connection with their investments in buy-out, venture capital, hedge fund and infrastructure funds, as well as co-investment transactions.
Cal has acted for a number of institutional investors in connection with their investments in private investment funds, including: AIMCo, CPP Investments, HarbourVest Partners, IMCO, Northleaf Capital Partners, OMERS, OPTrust, OTPPB and PSPIB. Cal has also worked with CBRE Investment Management, Northleaf Capital Partners, Maverix Private Equity, Sagard Holdings and TorQuest Partners in connection with the planning, forming and negotiating of their private market funds, as well as their internal governance and economic arrangements.
Cal also has experience in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions and general corporate matters.

During law school, Cal volunteered with the Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia (LISNS), a program that provides free legal information to individuals on a variety of legal topics. Cal has also volunteered with the Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS) program, a high school program that uses legal education as a tool to assist students to succeed in school and become engaged and active citizens.
