Geoff practices corporate law, with a focus on private equity and fund formation, particularly representing private equity clients in Western Canada. He has experience representing institutional investors in connection with their investments in private equity, venture capital, secondary, and co-investment transactions.
Geoff has acted for a number of institutional investors in connection with their investments in private investment funds, including: Plannera Pensions & Benefits, Alberta Enterprise Corporation, BMO, CPP Investments, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, Northleaf Capital Partners, HarbourVest Partners, BDC, EDC and Teralys. Geoff also frequently works with private equity and venture capital sponsors, including Maverix Private Equity, SeaFort Capital, District Ventures Capital, and Northleaf Capital Partners to establish and raise capital for their private equity funds.
Prior to joining Torys, Geoff worked as a summer law student for ACS Infrastructure Canada.
Geoff has volunteered with the Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS) program, a high school program that uses legal education as a tool to assist students to succeed in school and become engaged and active citizens.
During law school, Geoff was a volunteer case worker for Queen’s Legal Aid. He was also awarded the Queen’s Law Prize in Advanced Corporate Law and the Rueben Wells Leonard Prize in Wills and Estate Planning.
